Surreal beauty of Ly Son Island - Quang Ngai

Introduction

Quang Ngai is located in Central Vietnam and characterized as having mountains on one side and the sea on the other.

In the past, this place didn’t receive many visitors who often bypassed the town for Da Nang north or Nha Trang to the south. However, nowadays, it is becoming more and more popular among dosmestic and international tourists who want to discover new places and indulge tranquil life.

Ly Son Island (Big Island)

Arranged among top ten islands of Vietnam, Ly Son Island in Quang Ngai Province is known as the “natural pearl island” for its charming and spectacular white sand and blue sea. It’s also known as the Garlic Kingdom of Vietnam.

The most deal time to visit this bewitchingl island is from June to September. Every year, thousands of people flock to this island to relax in the sun, swim in the ocean, and dive the surrounding reefs.

However, if you are interested in joining in garlic harvest, please wait till the beginning of December.

The only way to get to this island is to take a ferry speed boat/hight speed vessel. You can buy the tickets (about 105.000 VND/ticket/one way) from Sa Ky Port to Ly Son Island  and vice versa.

What to see

As the only and the most unique volcanic island of Viet Nam, the main attraction of this island is its tranquility as well as its untouched and pristine nature with clean, unspoiled powder-sand white beaches and memorial historical places.

Watching twilight on the beach is also a should-not-be-missed experience. The sun sets at horizon with little light shining down weakly on the surface of the water create such a romantic and splendid landscape of Ly Son.

Visiting Ly Son, tourists also shouldn’t miss opportunity to climb to famous Thoi Loi mountain peak, from which they can see a panorama of the brilliant beauty of the island, with blue sea and skies, green fields of garlic, and dark brown architecture.

 

Hotels, hostels in Ly Son Island

Getting accommodation in island is quite convenient. Here are some hotels on Ly Son Island including Ly Son hotel, Vien Dong hotel, Hoa Bien hotel and Dai Duong hotel.

Also, some guest houses near the quay are priced at VND80, 000 per room per night. In case they are full, local people can offer their houses for rent.

Be Island

Besides, from Ly Son Island (Big Island), travellers can rent a wooden boat to Be Island (Little Island) which has a very beautiful sandy beach surrounded with tall bow-shaped cliffs, and waves roaring day and night. Fresh water on this Small Island is quite scarce so travellers should prepare carefully for the trip.

About places to stay, if you want to stay overnight on Small Island, neither hotel nor hostel, the only way is to rent natives’ house.

What to eat

Not only famous for paradise beauty, Ly Son Island is also well-known for its specialties. Seafood dishes are cooked after having been caught from the sea and as a result, they are very fresh and delicious. Especially, in garlic season, tourists can enjoy many yummy and special garlic dishes. Garlic salad is simple but truly exotic dish that you cannot miss when visiting Ly Son.
