Yen Bai Travel Guide

Yen Bai located in the northern part of northern-central Vietnam with many scenic spots as well as historical places which are fairly famous for both domestic and foreigner tourists. Visiting Yen Bai travelers not only enjoy the beauty of Vietnam’s nature but also have a memorable moment about the ethnic minority. At present, there are many ethnic groups in Yen Bai, but Kinh people are the majority population came here  a long time ago and in unison with the local minority groups as Muong Lo and H’Mong.

The best time to visit

Yen Bai is tropical monsoon climate is divided into two seasons; the cold season lasts from November to March and the hot season is from April to October. And the good time to visit Yen Bai is from Sep to Oct.

How to get

Yen Bai City is 180km from Hanoi. There is National Highway No.32 linking to Lao Cai and National Highway No.37 connecting to Tuyen Quang= > Using bus is the best choice: buses leave daily for Yen Bai from My Dinh Bus Station and vice versa

Travelers can also use a train to the town of Yen Bai (direction Lao Cai) and here take the local bus to Nghia Lo and take about 4-4.5 hours from Hanoi- Yen Bai

What to do

Mu Cang Chai - a rural district of Yen Bai province, in the northeastern region of Vietnam, which is 300 kilometers from Hanoi. The good time to visit Mu Cang Chai is September and October is suggested as the most ideal time to visit Mu Cang Chai as everywhere, from magnificent mountains or beautiful terraced rice fields are bathed in glistening rays.

Cam Duong cave- located in the middle of Bach Ngoc Mountain, Chinh Quan hamlet, Lieu Do commune, Luc Yen district, Yen Bai province and listed as the group of 10 most beautiful caves in Vietnam

Thac Ba Lake- Situated 180km from Hanoi, Thac Ba Lake is one of three Vietnam's largest artificial lakes and famous for the first hydro power plant. This is also known as an attractive eco-tourism site.

Suoi Giang- is situated on the height of 800 – 1000m above the sea level, 20km from Nghia Lo Town and suitable for tourism relaxation, sightseeing and exploring the cultural life of H’Mong Ethnic Group.

What to eat

Each Vietnam’s province has its own specialty and Yen Bai is not an exception. If you have a chance to visit spectacular spot, don’t forget relish Yen Bai’s specialty:

  • Five-color Steamed Glutinous Rice- has been well-known as a specialty of Tay Bac
  • Sausage Yen Bai: Sausage is a Vietnamese food originated in China. It’s a dry, hard sausage usually made from pork and high content of fat. It’s normally smoked, sweetened and seasoned with rice wine. The cover part is firm, dark, brittle and has smoke smell. When you eat, you’ll feel a strange but familiar flavor: cane residue smoked with firewood.
